Home for the weekend and today is just another Saturday. Like any other couple, have morning coffee, eat breakfast, do some laundry, work in a lunch break, run some errands, supper, and relax for the evening.

For Suzanne, today started off pretty good, at least better than the last few have been. After Thursdays ‘throat lancing’ event, she was in a lot more pain and struggled more to talk & swallow than on previous days. She was just plain miserable.

Today she is doing battle with the build-up of mucus in the back of her throat. The radiation is causing the saliva glands to not be as active, so her mouth is drier and the secretions thicker than usual. This thicking liquid basically gags her unless we keep on top of it. Thanks to a suggestion from my neighbor Doctor, I was off to the pharmacy to give something new a try.

Eating and getting enough calories is our biggest challenge now. With a constant sore throat and concerns about being sick, she is quickly becomming weary of my constant ‘nagging’.

For Suzanne, it was a busy but mind relaxing day; Kelly & Tim came out to help her clean off the front porch in anticipation of colder weather, Friends came by to visit and did most of the talking, Some sewing, some cleaning, and most of all, some rest.

All in all, I call it a good day.
