T Minus 26

T Minus 26

Hurray, it’s Friday! Suzanne is in treatment but we are heading home as soon as we can. Our plan is to come home on weekends as long as it is possible. Fridays are the days we meet with her Speech Therapist so we can’t get out of Dodge quite as quickly as we would like. His job is not what we expected as it has nothing to do with speech. His efforts are to ensure that Suzanne will be able…

A John Denver Morning

A John Denver Morning

Thursday is the only day that Suzanne doesn’t have any appointments other than her radiation treatment. Today, after treatment we walked down to the food court at the Hyatt for breakfast. It’s a really nice place with unusual, non-chain food stands and has just been open for a month. We both chose a made-to-order breakfast sandwich from one of the two vendors that are open at breakfast time. Each sandwich had double fried eggs; I had sausage, Suzanne bacon. Suzanne’s…

Day 39 +1

Day 39 +1

Yesterday’s post, today. It’s a rainy day here today so we decided to skip our daily stroll and opt for a drier trip, we took the shuttle this morning. Rush Hospital offers a free shuttle to anyone needing transportation within the Medical District who has an appointment at a Rush provider. Today, although Tuesday, was a combination day for Suzanne because of Labor Day, which means you may need a scorecard to keep up. First up was her usual radiation…

Bing – – – You’ve Got Mail

Bing – – – You’ve Got Mail

I spent most of the day writing a post about Day 39, Suzanne’s treatments, what happened, and how She did. The rain stopped long enough for the two us to walk home, although a cool walk it was. Then, as we opened the door to our apartment, Suzanne exclaimed, “We Got Mail” Whenever there is mail, the IMBD Guest House staff delivers it under our door. This was the most excitement I had seen all day, mainly because, it was!…

Labor Day

Labor Day

Growing up, Labor Day was a big day around our house. Dad was a union man, Secretary / Treasurer of his local union & involved in other labor activities. In town, there was always a ‘Labor Day Parade’ that had floats & cars with dignitaries. I rode with dad a couple of times and on a float or two over the years. Labor Day this year was just that, a lot of labor. We packed clothes for the next week…

I Believe in Santa

I Believe in Santa

Buckle up cowboys & cowgirls, this one is going to be a long one. We all have pet peeves, those things about other people that push us closer to the edge: Foot tappers,   chronically late,   dishes in the sink,   leaving the toilet seat up,  and the list goes on and on; we all have them.   For me, an unusual one is how much we use the word ‘believe’ in the Christian vocabulary;  “I believe in God” Definition:  Believe  –  to…

Bruns-O-Matic

Bruns-O-Matic

I’m always considering the potential consequences of actions, looking at as many sides as I can see to determine the best course of action. When someone asks me a question, I might just stare off into space for what I’m sure seems like a long time to the questioner.  Then I usually reply:  Sorry, I had to put that in my ‘Bruns-O-Matic’, which at that point I’ll share what solution I have devised. As reliable as it can be, the…

Day 35

Day 35

We have survived week 1 of the treatments and living in our ‘Tiny House’ without too many squabbles. Suzanne’s treatments are cumulative so this week was an easy one for her. At this point, she is doing all she can as preventative measures to prepare for the later weeks. Since Monday is Labor Day, we have a long weekend ahead of us here at home. Her radiation treatment was done by 9:00 am this morning so we were on the…

Happy Birthday Wife

Happy Birthday Wife

Ever since we were married, I affectionately refer to Suzanne as “Wife”. What’s for dinner wife? OK wife, where do you want to go today? Actually not sure if she likes being called ‘wife’, never asked her. Everyone usually ends up with some nickname for their spouse. Some are cute, some are funny, some can’t be said in public, but all are meant to be a personal connection with your partner. It’s that personal connection that keeps our marriage alive….

Not quite home

Not quite home

In your own house, you get used to the conveniences we have purchased and accumulated over time. We know how to connect to the internet, run the microwave, the TV remote, thermostat, and even our Google or Alexa personal assistant if we have one. Let’s just say our new place here in Chicago offers some challenges to the comforts of home. Besides the fact that our new place is about the size of our living room at home, the floors…
